Beyond her extended studies of the Seri and Zapotec communities, Graciela Iturbide has spent five decades photographing Mexico's broader social and visual life. This work moves through Mexico City street life, religious processions, fiestas, and the recurring presence of death as a cultural subject rather than an occasion for morbidity. Rooftop pigeons, market stalls, church interiors, and the unplanned geometries of the built environment appear alongside her portraits.

These images span a wide range of settings and subjects, yet share a consistent sensibility: black-and-white composition attentive to symbolism, and a documentary approach that treats everyday Mexican life with the same gravity she brings to ritual and ceremony. Taken together, they form the connective tissue of her practice, the ongoing observation of her country that runs beneath and around her more focused bodies of work.
