James Gallagher uses collage to investigate human form and personal identity. Gallagher’s work has hung in galleries around the world and he has curated international collage exhibitions in New York City, Berlin, and Cork County, Ireland. His art has been featured in publications such as Elephant Magazine, unFlop Paper, Juxtapoz Magazine, The Paris Review, and The New York Times and can be seen every week in the Sex Diaries column at The Cut. Gallagher is the co-editor of Gestalten’s Cutting Edges: Contemporary Collage and publisher, editor and creative director of the contemporary art magazine Secret Behavior which launched to much acclaim in 2013. Gallagher earned a BFA from The School of Visual Arts in New York City. He is currently the creative director at Purchase College, SUNY and lives in Brooklyn with his wife and three children.
