Overview

ROSEGALLERY is thrilled to be back in London for the 10th edition of Photo London, proudly presenting works by Tania Franco Klein!

Tania Franco Klein is a Mexico City–based artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores themes of modern anxiety, media overstimulation, and the pressure to self-optimize. With a background in architecture, she creates immersive installations combining cinematic photography, video, and murals to examine identity, solitude, and performative behavior in a hyper-connected world. In Proceed to the Route, inspired by the GPS directive, Franco Klein portrays anonymous figures adrift in liminal spaces—motels, highways, and deserts—suggesting a disorientation that persists despite technological guidance. These staged, filmic scenes reflect the emotional toll of a society obsessed with productivity yet mired in uncertainty. Break in Case of Emergency deepens this inquiry through surreal self-portraits that explore catharsis and psychological unrest. Referencing Aristotelian tragedy, these fragmented images of female figures reveal the tension between internal struggle and societal expectations. Shown together, the two series highlight Franco Klein’s sharp insight into the psychological strain of contemporary life. In Mercado de Sonora (2019), she turns her lens toward her native Mexico, exploring inherited beliefs and mystical rituals through the lens of her mother and grandmother. Against the backdrop of a chaotic market filled with esoteric remedies and trafficked animals, she stages intimate domestic scenes that expose the fraught interplay between faith, exploitation, and the fragile hope for transcendence.
